Friendly Fields Farm was on their way into town one morning when all of a sudden, they saw a flash of white. They made a quick decision to drop everything and help an animal in need. When they pulled over, they realized that the flash of white was a chicken!
“We weren’t planning on taking in any more animals for the next few months, but when I saw this guy by the side of the road I knew we couldn’t leave him,” the rescuer said.

After evaluating their surroundings, the rescuer realized that there were no houses nearby, just dangerous, busy roads. If left alone, the chicken would probably have been hit by a car, so leaving him was not an option. The poor guy was so scared and kept running away when they got close. However, with a lot of patience and some raisins to lure him in close, he was eating his snack out of the palm of their hand. As soon as he was distracted by the food, they grabbed him and brought him to safety.
“When you’re running an animal rescue and sanctuary, you’re always on call to help an animal in distress,” they said.
Chickens are domesticated animals, just like cats and dogs, and really can’t survive on their own outside without help. It’s also not uncommon for people to abandon birds once they realize how much work and care they require.

“I’m so glad we were able to help this little guy out! Unfortunately, abandoned chickens (especially roosters) are very common. A lot of people dump chickens alongside busy roads as soon as caring for them becomes inconvenient,” the rescuer explained.
This chicken has joined a flock of rescue birds at the sanctuary and is already making so many new friends!
